Systrarnas kusin, Mr Collins, vill göra det rätta och gifta sig med en av hans kusiner för att godset ska stanna i familjen men Elizabeth kan inte tänka sig att gifta sig med en sådan löjlig man som han, något som förargar hennes mor djupt. När Elizabeth så har nekat till frieriet och huset är i uppror kommer Charlotte och bjuder över Mr Collins till dem för middag och det leder i slutändan till ett nytt frieri oc denna gången ett ja, från Charlotte.
